Why modern SEO is a systems engineering problem
Unstructured content fails against AI search. Structure, not volume, decides who gets cited.
For twenty years, SEO rewarded whoever published the most pages with the right words on them. AI answers changed the rules: an assistant does not show ten links, it names three businesses — and it only names the ones it can understand with confidence.
Answers are assembled, not ranked
An AI assistant builds its answer from sources it can parse and cross-check: structured data, consistent listings, pages that state facts plainly. A beautifully written page that buries your prices and service area in paragraph six is, to a model, a page with no facts on it.
That makes it an engineering problem
Schema, information architecture, crawlability, canonical facts that agree across every directory — these are systems decisions. They are designed once, correctly, and then they compound. Volume matters far less than whether the content is machine-legible.
Where to start
Run your top ten buying questions through two or three assistants. If you are not named, look at who is — and at what those businesses publish that you do not. That gap is your roadmap.
